Andersilliams Happiness Project (AHP)

12/31/09

There is a book that just came out called The Happiness Project. This book is based on a woman's year long quest to get more happiness into her life. You can read about her and the project here. On her site she encourages people to start their own happiness project and I thought this blog, this year, would be a great opportunity to start our own. Each Monday I will post a task, accomplishment, or just little something to do for the week. Some easy, some more difficult, and all (very) loosely based on The Happiness Project. I would love for you to participate and post your thoughts and results here as well.

Good Luck and here's to a transformed New Year!

Christmas Eve Service.

12/24/09

Tonight we took Alec to his first Church service ever. It was at the Methodist Church where he goes to school. It was a typical Methodist Christmas Eve service, tons of singing and candlelight. He loved it. He was even willing to pass his candle to me for a brief signing of Silent Night.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Craft Project Answers...

12/16/09

Project #1: Alec's Christmas Shoppe. He is immensely proud of this and will spend much time working in it, decorating it, and telling me all about it!
Project #2: These are little gifts (really more of a thank-you) for each of the kids and teachers at Asbury. They are stuffed with... yes, you guessed it! A pack of Lifesavers :)

Project #3 and 3 1/2: Alec is a wiseman in the kindergarten nativity play on Thursday and we had to make a crown and a robe for him. Thank goodness for homedepot drop-cloths! I am sure you will see more of this after Thursday.

Project #4: The ever famous gingerbread houses. This year we invited G'ma Yoni over and ended up creating an entire village.

Alec loved it...
And there was much sillyness...

The end result however is beautiful and truly a feast for the eyes!

Happy Thanksgiving.

11/26/09

Have a wonderful and thankful Thanksgiving.

and to put a little smile on your face:
Subject: Happy Thanksgiving.

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude
and an even worse vocabulary.

Every word out of the bird's' mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to 'clean up' the bird's vocabulary.

Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even more rude. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.

Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."

John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude.

As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird spoke-up, very softly, "May I ask what the turkey did?"

Social Networking

11/23/09

This is a video I used in class the other day to show the impact of Social Networking. It really is amazing when you think of how connected everyone is. It totally changes the way we do business. No matter what field you are in social networking will impact you. It think the most interesting stats are those about LinkedIn and the suggestion that students who take online/hybrid courses do better overall.

Scrapbooking Weekend.

11/20/09

We had a great time last weekend. It was nice to get away with the ladies and do some crazy scrappin!

It was also cool to see what the big Nor'Easter did to the beaches. Or lack thereof.

I managed to get a whopping 20 pages done which for me is incredible. Here are a couple of my favorites...

(Similarities)

(First day of Kindergarten. Cathy Zielski Scraplift)

(Boating with the Bretts)

A first sentence

11/18/09

Written with window markers on the back door. Can you read it? It says "I see" and then a little stick figure. Alec said "Hey mommy look, I wrote a sentence. It says, I see Mommy!"

Is that not the cutest first sentence ever?

Word Cards

11/16/09

Remember the word cards we made for the kindergarten shultute? Well they have been a huge hit and now that the little boy is reading and writing they are filling up the fridge fast!

The coolest part is that we can move the words around so he gets to practice picking out sight words. Sometimes that is hard when you are used to seeing them in a pattern (like the days of the week).

The Mulch Man

Per usual, Alec was a huge help in our landscaping project. He moved rocks, shoveled mulch, and was generally non-stop helpful. We even bought him his own little Alec-sized shovel which he LOVED!

Moving 2500 lbs of Rocks

We have been working here on our "curb appeal". We ripped out everything in the front beds...

did some tilling...

Moved 2500 lbs of rocks
Stuck in some plants...

and added a dump truck full of mulch.

I would say the end result is much nicer than where we started:

The masked super hero.

11/1/09

This year... it was the great masked super hero! Thanks to some bat wings (a birthday gift) and some felt ironed onto a t-shirt. As a quick side note - look at those leaves?! Averil had just cleaned them all up about 2 hours prior to this photo. AHHHH.
Even with a sick boy we managed to go to a few houses. And, when I say a few, I mean a few. He made it to about three before we had to carry him home.

The Scarecrow and the Sleepy Pumpkin Patch

10/30/09

And... a sick little boy. Alec woke in the middle of last night sick with a fever, croupy cough, and this morning some significant breathing issues. None the less, he was adamant that he go to school. It was his first performance and as nervous as he was he did not want to miss it.

So, I introduce you to The Scarecrow and the Sleepy Pumpkin Patch...

He did a great job even through burning eyes, a nasty cough, and gasping for breath.
